A Different Kind of All-Star Weekend Is Coming to Frisco
Frisco is hosting a national All-Star Weekend October 16–18, but this one isn't about professional athletes or multimillion-dollar contracts.
It's about giving people with disabilities the opportunity to experience something many of us take for granted: the joy of playing baseball.
The National Miracle League All-Star Weekend is bringing athletes and their families from across the country to Frisco for three days of baseball, friendship and celebration.
And behind the event is a local organization doing something pretty special.
What Is the Miracle League?
The Miracle League is an adaptive sports organization that makes baseball accessible to children and young adults with disabilities.
Traditional baseball fields can be difficult for athletes who use wheelchairs, walkers or other mobility devices. Miracle League fields are specially designed with smooth, cushioned surfaces that make it easier for athletes with different physical abilities to participate.
Games are adapted to accommodate players' needs, and volunteers called buddies help athletes when needed.
The focus isn't on who wins or loses. It's on giving every player the opportunity to participate, build friendships and experience being part of a team.
Here in North Texas, the Miracle League of Frisco serves athletes ages 5–22, offering not only baseball but also basketball, soccer, football, bowling and track.

There's More to Frisco Than Professional Sports
Frisco is known for the Dallas Cowboys, FC Dallas, PGA golf and major sporting events. But organizations like the Miracle League tell another important part of the city's story.
Beyond the stadiums and entertainment districts are community programs that create opportunities for residents of different ages and abilities.
That's something I think deserves attention.
When families are considering moving to North Texas, they often begin by researching neighborhoods, home prices, schools and commutes. But the programs, parks and recreational opportunities available to residents are part of what makes a community feel like home.
Frisco offers a variety of those experiences, including its recently opened Northwest Community Park, featuring 122 acres and more than 10 miles of trails.
From nature trails to adaptive sports, these community amenities are part of what makes Frisco an interesting place to explore.
Can You Get Involved With Miracle League of Frisco?
Absolutely. The Miracle League of Frisco relies on volunteers and community support to help make its programs possible.
Whether you're interested in volunteering, supporting the organization or learning about sports opportunities for an athlete in your family, the Miracle League of Frisco website is the place to start.
A Community Worth Celebrating
I've called McKinney home since 1998 and have watched Frisco grow into one of North Texas's most recognized cities.
But some of the most meaningful things happening here don't involve billion-dollar developments or professional sports.
Sometimes they're happening on a baseball field, where every athlete gets a chance to play.
And I think that's a story worth sharing.
