White Rock Lake Artists’ Studio Tour 2026: A Local Guide + Exploring East Dallas

If you're thinking about moving to Dallas and you're curious about White Rock Lake, Lakewood or East Dallas, I have an unusual suggestion for next weekend:

Go look at art.

The White Rock Lake Artists’ Studio Tour returns October 10 and 11 from 10 AM–5 PM.

But this isn't an art fair where everyone sets up booths in one park.

Artists open their actual studios throughout the neighborhoods surrounding White Rock Lake.

This year’s tour includes 36 artist studios and three art centers, and admission is free. White Rock Artists

That means you're not simply seeing art.

You're driving streets, seeing homes, crossing neighborhoods and experiencing the part of Dallas where these artists actually live and work.

For someone considering moving here, that makes this weekend especially interesting.

What Is the White Rock Lake Artists’ Studio Tour?

This is now the tour's 32nd year.

The concept is wonderfully simple:

Artists throughout the White Rock Lake area open their studios and invite visitors inside to see where their work is actually created.

You'll find painting, ceramics and pottery, sculpture, glass, jewelry, mixed media, textiles, photography, printmaking, woodworking and more. White Rock Artists

Rather than viewing finished work hanging anonymously in a gallery, you can meet the artists and see their materials, processes and workspaces.

And the entire event is free. White Rock Artists

When Is the 2026 White Rock Artists’ Tour?

Saturday, October 10: 10 AM–5 PM
Sunday, October 11: 10 AM–5 PM

There are 36 studios plus three art centers/schools on this year's route. White Rock Artists

You do not need to visit all 39 locations.

In fact, I wouldn't try.

Pick the art that interests you—or pick an area you want to explore—and build your route around that.

How Do I Find the Studios?

This year’s interactive map makes that considerably easier.

You can search by studio name or artistic medium, see studios in the area you're interested in and open GPS directions directly from the map. White Rock Artists

That's particularly useful because this is not one centralized event location.

The movement between studios is part of the experience.

Three Stops I'd Know About Before You Go

One of the official tour locations is the Bath House Cultural Center on White Rock Lake.

It will be showing its 40th annual Día de Muertos exhibition, with a reception Sunday, October 11 from 5–7 PM. White Rock Artists

The tour also includes Creative Arts Center of Dallas, where visitors can see students working in areas including sculpture, painting, glass and mosaic.

And Iron Frog Press participates as a working printmaking studio focused on art production and education. White Rock Artists

Those three stops alone demonstrate how much broader this is than simply shopping for artwork.

Why Is White Rock Lake Such a Creative Area?

The tour's organizers describe the neighborhoods surrounding White Rock Lake as an area known for natural beauty, native forests and the historic city lake, and as a longtime haven for visual artists. White Rock Artists

Spend an afternoon driving around here and that connection starts to make sense.

This isn't the Dallas many relocation buyers expect.

There are mature trees.

Older homes.

Architectural variety.

Winding streets.

Lake access.

And neighborhoods that developed long before many of North Texas' newer suburban communities existed.

That's one reason I think this particular event works so well as a relocation day.

What Is It Like to Live Near White Rock Lake?

Here's where I would separate the lifestyle question from the event.

“Near White Rock Lake” isn't one single neighborhood.

Depending on where you're driving, you'll encounter places including Lakewood, Forest Hills, Little Forest Hills and other East Dallas neighborhoods.

The housing can change dramatically.

You may see:

  • older cottages;
  • mid-century homes;
  • renovated historic properties;
  • substantial custom homes;
  • newer luxury construction;
  • heavily wooded lots;
  • smaller urban lots.

That's a very different home-shopping experience from driving through a newer master-planned community in Frisco or McKinney.

Neither is inherently better.

They solve different lifestyle problems.

Do Homes Near White Rock Lake Cost More Because of the Lake?

This is exactly where I'd be careful with sweeping real-estate statements.

Proximity to White Rock Lake can absolutely be desirable.

But there isn't a single “White Rock Lake premium” you can apply to every house.

Value still depends on the specific property:

Location.

Street.

Lot.

Condition.

Updates.

Architecture.

Comparable sales.

Nearby competing inventory.

And what buyers have actually been willing to pay.

I would also examine listings that expired or were cancelled without selling.

Why?

Because closed sales tell us where buyers accepted the market price.

Expired and cancelled listings can help reveal where sellers asked for a price the market didn't accept.

That's particularly useful in areas where housing styles and individual properties vary substantially.

Turn the Art Tour Into a Neighborhood Tour

Here's how I'd approach next weekend if you were considering moving to East Dallas.

First: Choose four or five studios—not 36.

Use the interactive map and cluster them geographically.

Second: Include the Bath House Cultural Center.

You're right on White Rock Lake, so spend some time there rather than immediately driving to the next studio.

Third: Pay attention while you're driving.

This sounds obvious, but don't treat the drive between studios as dead time.

Look at the houses.

Trees.

Streets.

Traffic.

People walking.

Distance between neighborhood businesses.

Fourth: Stop for lunch or coffee.

You're testing everyday life.

Not completing a scavenger hunt.

Finally: Drive Lakewood before heading home.

Then compare what you just experienced with the North Texas communities you've already explored.

That's when relocation decisions become much easier.

We've Already Seen Another Side of This Area

A few weeks ago I wrote about Autumn at the Dallas Arboretum, which sits along the eastern edge of White Rock Lake.

That article gives you another excellent reason to turn this into an entire East Dallas day:

Autumn at the Dallas Arboretum 2026: Harvest Hues, Dates & What to Know

The Arboretum's fall display continues through November 1, so you could realistically combine the two next weekend. Michelle Gifford Realtor

And if you need somewhere to eat afterward, my Dallas dining guide already includes several White Rock/Lakewood-area options:

Where to Eat During the World Cup in Dallas: A Local's Guide

Those are natural internal links because they help someone build an actual day in this part of Dallas rather than simply sending them to another unrelated real-estate article.

I'm a lifelong North Texan and have called McKinney home since 1998. One of the things I love about working throughout North Texas is how dramatically your everyday life can change simply by choosing a different part of DFW.

White Rock Lake and East Dallas don't feel like Frisco.

Frisco doesn't feel like Historic McKinney.

Plano isn't interchangeable with Allen.

That's why when I'm helping someone relocate, I'm not only interested in finding a beautiful house.

I want to help them figure out where their life fits.
