Prosper's Summer Roster: New Openings, Downtown Bets, and a July Weekend Worth Building Around

Something changed in Prosper this spring. For years the shorthand was that residents drove to Frisco for anything past a grocery run. That short drive is quietly getting shorter, and the 2026 opening slate is the reason.

The interesting part is not the sheer count. It is the shape of the map. New arrivals are stacking at two opposite ends of town, and each end is pulling the weekend in a different direction.

The Two Poles

At the south end, along Preston Road and University Drive, national brands are filling in the corridor that already had the Gates of Prosper anchor. At the north end, along Broadway, a much smaller bet is being placed on downtown as a walkable evening district. Both are happening at once, and they are not competing so much as splitting the week.

Urban Cookhouse opened its doors in August 2025 at the Gates of Prosper at 1151 S. Preston Rd., marking the Alabama-based chain's first Texas location. It is a farm-to-table concept run by James Zemlock, a Frisco restaurateur with three decades in hospitality and connections to Grimaldi's Pizzeria and The Capital Grille. That opening set the tone for the corridor, which has kept adding through 2026.

Chick-fil-A opened May 26 in Prosper, and Nothing Bundt Cakes opened their second Prosper location in May. The new Chick-fil-A is owned and operated by Chris Wright, his second Prosper location in addition to the one at the Gates of Prosper, and it marks the first of nine new Chick-fil-A restaurants expected to open in the metroplex throughout 2026.

Broadway is the smaller, stranger story, and the one worth watching.

What Actually Opened in 2026

Read the addresses. Preston. University. Preston. University. That is the Frisco-facing spine of Prosper, and it is doing what national chains do when a rooftop count crosses a threshold: showing up in clusters.

The Downtown Bet

The Broadway story is different. Fewer players, higher risk, more ambition per square foot.

1902 is confirmed for summer 2026 at 209 W. Broadway in downtown Prosper. Chef Amy DiBiase is heading up the kitchen, and it will include Mary Ann's Speakeasy upstairs. The restaurant will take over the Prosper Wine House location, which closed in 2024. The new concept will include a full commercial kitchen and two floors of seating space, with American fare on its menu including steaks, house-made pasta and desserts.

A named chef, a two-story build, and a second-floor speakeasy is an unusual bet for a downtown that most residents still associate with weekday errands. It is the kind of investment that presumes people will drive to Broadway rather than through it.

The town of Prosper has also approved a mixed-use development at the intersection of Dallas Parkway and Frontier Parkway, and a 34.6-acre property planned for three restaurant and retail buildings, two restaurant buildings and six retail buildings, per town documents reported by Community Impact.

Stack that with the openings above and a pattern shows up: Preston and University are getting national convenience, Broadway is getting the destination pieces, and Dallas Parkway is being lined up as the next node.

A July Weekend, Assembled

If you already live here, the useful question is what to do with the calendar between now and the end of the month. The Town of Prosper 2026 events calendar and the Prosper Chamber lineup give a working template.

  1. Friday evening. Coffee and a walk on Broadway. If 1902 opens on its summer window, the block starts feeling different by dusk. Downtown's boutiques stay open for weekend browsing along Broadway Street.
  2. Saturday morning. Half-priced gallons at HTeaO if you catch the opening-week specials, then errands at Hareli Fresh Market on West University if you cook Indian or South Asian food at home.
  3. Saturday afternoon. The Community Library programming has been running through the summer, with the Fourth of July Parade with Town Fire and Police on July 2 and Pride in the Sky the same evening.
  4. Saturday night. Prosper on Tap: Bourbon, Blooms & Bubbly on July 18. The self-guided beverage tasting event runs through 10 Downtown Prosper boutiques, each pouring a specialty wine or craft cocktail.
  5. Sunday. Urban Cookhouse brunch at Gates of Prosper. Their weekend brunch includes a shared charcuterie board with smoked bacon, seasonal fruit, pastries, and deviled eggs for $25.

A month ago that list would have leaned entirely on Frisco. It does not have to now.

The larger civic frame around July is worth naming. Prosper America 250 is a community-wide, 40-day celebration honoring America's 250th birthday, running May 25 through July 4. The Memorial Day Ceremony on May 25 opened the run at the pavilion at Frontier Park, 1551 Frontier Pkwy., and Stars, Stripes & Prosper Nights on June 12 featured a Car Show on Main Street east of Town Hall with family activities on the Downtown Plaza and complimentary shaved ice. The Downtown Block Party on May 30 was hosted by The Tavern on Broadway in partnership with the Town of Prosper and downtown businesses, running from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

What's Still Coming

A few of the openings still in construction shape the fall differently than the summer, and they are worth tracking if you are planning around them.

Haraz Coffee House is opening summer 2026 at 2720 W. Frontier Parkway, which puts a specialty coffee anchor at the far west edge of town where there was not one before. Zaxby's, the Georgia-based chicken chain, is headed to Prosper with construction set to break ground in April 2026.

For family entertainment, Prosper Planning and Zoning approved a site plan and final plat for a 40,738-square-foot trampoline park owned by Ground Control Trampoline Park, set to open in 2026 at 1500 Richland Blvd. with obstacle courses, dodgeball, ziplining and amusement rides. It would be the company's third Texas location, with existing parks in Irving and San Antonio. A Dave & Buster's ribbon cutting is also on the Prosper Chamber calendar.

Retail is arriving in larger blocks. Phase 3 for The Gates of Prosper is slated to bring national brands such as Barnes & Noble, Total Wine, REI and Carhartt to the shopping center. REI's Prosper location will also include a full-service professional bike shop.

And downtown is not done. Elsewhere in the region, mixed-use projects continue to reshape suburban downtowns, but Prosper's own downtown pipeline is being built one address at a time, with 1902 as the tent pole and Broadway's Saturday foot traffic as the test.

What This Means If You Already Live Here

The practical read is that Prosper's summer is finally worth planning around Prosper. The Preston and University corridor gives you the convenience layer, Broadway gives you the evening, and the Town's America 250 lineup gives you a reason to keep the car in the driveway on more than one Saturday. The number of destinations inside the town limits has moved enough that the mental map most residents built two years ago is out of date.

Two years from now the story will likely be about how downtown held up against Gates of Prosper. This summer, the more useful story is that both are open at once, and you can eat, browse, and end an evening without leaving the 75078.
